I’m a little delayed on posting this, but there’s been an awesome exhibit at DC’s African Art Museum by Yinka Shonibare. He takes classic scenes portrayed in previous art works (literature, operas, paintings, etc.) and reconstructs them using colorful textiles, headless mannequins, or erotic positioning to show a completely different perspective. Although, no photography was allowed, I snapped a couple shots. Don’t tell anyone.
New Year, New Style, New Track

Changin times, changing tunes. Here’s a new one for the faithful. The as yet untitled track is somewhat of a departure from my old style of sampling and looping old vinyl. It’s been inspired by some other stuff I’ve been getting into lately, but nothing worth mentioning because I don’t want to beg the comparisons. It’s still in a rough draft state; I can’t seem to stick with one thing long enough to consider it “finished.” Just getting some ideas down….
cowboy accused of killing his parents

A fallow summer night
Choleric heat under a bright red devil moon
Crickets chirp
Underneath the Big Sky
Thirteen years underground
I have a friend, kids
Oh, he is a friend of yours too
Look around you
At the blood
Flowing like torrents
As merrily as if it were champagne
No longer will man be responsible
For his actions
God is dead, kids
God, is surely dead
Your Father is asleep on an easy chair
Bathed in the television’s spectral glow
The evening news announces
Cowboy accused of killing his parents
did i break your heart again

I remember several years ago
Mission on the Embarcadero
On our way…
Going opposite directions
Jack Kerouac Street?
Hand in hand
A toxic purple sun
Smoldering overhead
Lost the first time
Thinking we could beat the world
At its own game
Did I break your heart again?
The answer is undoubtedly
No
