shimokitazawa is one express stop from shibuya on the inokashira line. home to tons of second hand clothing stores, antique shops, record shops (supposedly dj shadow makes a pilgrimage here whenever he’s in town), one of the best spots in tokyo for denim – Bears, it’s easily one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city. some photos from a day in shimo.
so i was surfing the apple trailer site earlier this morning and i came across a preview for a new film entitled Redacted by brian de palma from scarface fame. anyway, redacted looked interesting so i visited the official site and from there i found a link to a youtube clip of bill o’reilly ranting on about mark cuban (who financed part or all of the film) and in that video cuban mentions some documentary entitled loose change. so my curiosity piqued i searched for loose change in google and up comes this video. it’s 89 minutes long so you might not sit through it all as i did but i’d suggest sampling it at least partially but do watch it in its entirety if it interests you. now i don’t ascribe to the beliefs of this video, honestly, i don’t have any strong beliefs as to any explanation for the events in question – i simply know something happened and thousands of people lost their lives while at the same a reaction was set off that has influenced politics from the day in question on. i’m no conspiracy nut nor am i a political buff, however, i am an individual that values truth, knowledge and justice and as such found this alternative view on the events in question quite interesting. if you value seeing things from all angles before forming an opinion i suggest you check this out but take it for what it is and understand that today’s mediated news sources – even independent sources like this one are only valuable if viewed with an open mind and can be a dangerous thing when taken for truth by the ignorant.
dom was a friend of the consortium before the consortium existed, back when we were all in high school in germany. he was always a real cool cat and a great football player. sweetness and i played on the high school team with him and we all played on the local german side as well. dom was a year ahead of me in school and when he graduated he attended sonoma state in sonoma california the place he calls home. i remember taking an art class in high school with dom and for some reason we would work in our own room…can’t remember why, but it was cool because we’d usually spend the time listening to music, drawing/painting and rapping back and forth. during those classes he single handedly got me interested in hip hop – classic acts like digible planets, tribe, nice & smooth, etc. i visited dom a couple of times during uni while he was living a wild and awesome life on a farm in sebastopol. he was farming, painting and living a very different life from mine and i always loved getting into his groove while i was there. now he’s starting to make the initial moves in the local art scene and i’m sure sooner or later he’s going to be doing big things – if you like the look of the above piece check out his site dompadua and peep some more of his work and drop him a line. life is about creating meaningful things and dom is an expert. word
“I thought she was a bitch and I told her so. Of course the problem is that she really isn’t a bitch. I suppose that’s where the trouble lies. If she were a bitch, she’d know it and then it would just be stating the obvious, and we’d move on. Damn, if she wasn’t acting like one though.
Just surfing the internet in a daze checking shit out…. came upon a couple of things that I thought were worth posting.
First is this Paul White beat tape over at Dazed Digital. It’s so on point. I’m already on my second listen and it’s quite dope. I’m usually pretty skeptical about things like this but apparently this dude is on the up and up and it’s not hard to see (hear) why.
Next, on a more visual note is a series of pictures taken by Dennis Stock. They’re all from the filming of the Planet of the Apes. It’s great how they capture the spirit of the period and of LA and Hollywood from back in the day. I smell a BAPE tshirt somewhere in the mix.

when the statement “the best performance of the century” is thrown around, you know something good is in store
Well me being the only one that is still in school (who the hell talked me into getting a masters anyways??), I ended up visiting the former stomping grounds of the consortium. Sweetness came for a few weeks as well, but being on a 2 week pass from ranger school kind of left him out of action. I made my way south to partake in some winter fun and introduce the fam and my girl what the crew usually does in the winter. It was a nice trip and i even got the old man to try out the board. Here are a few snapshots of the action boys…
