daikanyama

i’d say i’ve explored a good amount of tokyo since arriving 8 months ago. pretty much hit all the major hoods…harajuku (every weekend it seems), shibuya, shinjuku, ebisu, ueno, ginza, aoyama, roppongi, etc. but of them all daikanyama has recently hit the top of my favorites list, surpassing even harajuku. there’s something about the place that makes it seem like you’re getting away from tokyo…while you’re right in the heart of it. it has that neighborhood feeling that is so difficult to create in a city of 30+ million people living elbow to elbow in the most dense city on earth. it has great food, excellent shopping, a respectable cafe culture and good streets for strolling – plus it’s home to tokyo’s second Supreme location! here are some photo’s from a day in daikanyama

that line in the background is for eggs…yes, a ‘pop-up’ breakfast joint from australia was open for just one month…tokyo-ites will line up for anything!

i seem to do all this in photoshop accidentaly and can never figure out how to recreate it…a.p.c. filtered

w+k

another great post on the honeyee blog by john c. jay partner in wieden + kennedy – this one concerning the culture of the historic marketing and creative firm. w+k began and is headquartered in a city near and dear to me – portland, oregon. they have handled marketing for some of the biggest names out there and most of nike’s iconic marketing schemes were devised within the walls of w+k. wieden and kennedy represents a place and a culture that i could really see myself in one day. the creativity, variety of subject matter and cosmopolitan(ness) of the firm appeals to me on all levels. i filled out their ‘w+k seeking’ online questionnaire – one day, maybe…check it out for yourself here:

Eyecue’s Music Round Up Pt. 1 – Stones Throw @ the Blackcat

2007 Stones Throw Bounce Tour

Last night the Stones Throw 2K Sports tour came through DC, stopping at the infamous Blackcat nightclub.

Despite its infamy, it’s not the usual hip hop venue. It most often plays host to up and coming or underground indie and punk rock bands. Nevertheless, I’ve seen plenty of shows there and I’m always happy with the intimacy of the place. The main stage, where last night’s show was held, is small enough with a high enough stage to make no view a bad one. Two bars flank the standing-room-only audience section ensuring a quick trip to the bar without missing any of the action.
