two-thousand-and-eight

Nothin' like a little Cristal to toast to the new year.As a follow up to the retrospective of the last few posts, I thought I’d take some time to marinate, postulate, and speculate on the year ahead. Soundune’s post brought a tear to my eye and longing in my heart for a foregone era, but whose to say that the ’08 won’t be filled with new memories and more of greatest time of my life. So, what follows are a few hopes, dreams, predictions, and observations on the coming 365 and the state of affairs we find ourselves thrust into.

Politics
This being an election year and all, I figure no 2008 musings would be complete without the political roundup.

Feel free to disagree, but here’s to the Democrats regaining the White House. I personally would be for an Obama presidency, but as the clock ticks ever closer to the Iowa caucuses, it seems like it’s anyone’s game on the Democratic side. Regardless of who wins the election, I don’t think anyone would disagree with hopes for a peaceful and stable resolution to the Iraq conflict. Whether you support the war or not, I don’t think anyone wants to see a repeat of 2007 (the bloodiest year for American troops in Iraq so far). Another year of bloody conflict and increased instability in the Middle East is the last thing we need in the 08.

The Greater Minds
Seoul, South Korea Two-thousand-eight will be the year the Consortium reunites in various cultural capitals of the world. My parents will move to Seoul, South Korea, establishing a firm foothold in the Orient. I’ll travel to Japan, and have Soundune guide me on the grand tour of Tokyo and the splendors of Japan. The Consortium will once again take over the rotten apple. It never gets old; the city that never sleeps also never fails to deliver. Suav will sucessfully complete his studies and become part of the 75% of America that now lives in urban areas. Sweetness, hot off his romp in the Georgia wetlands and savannahs, will triumphantly return to the Fatherland as King and Liege with all the fine wines and animal hides he desires. Of course, the new website will be unveiled, deploying thegreaterminds.com 2.0 and stepping up our web presence and user experience. All in all, good things await the faithful and ever vigilant Consortium of Greater Minds and all who share in their vision.

Personal
Big thangs poppin. I’ll finally see my name on a record as my album will drop after years in the making. (Seriously, Dave, if you’re reading this, I basically gave you all the beats I ever made. The ball’s in your court son. Write the fucking lyrics and we can make things happen, ya heard? In the meantime, I have beats for sale so get at me in the comments.) 2008 will also be the year I sit down and write my movie scripts. I have a couple ideas. One is a gritty action thriller that involves a look at small town America and how traditional values as seen through the eyes of a returning patriot are put in jeopardy by the government and gobalization. Another, is a modern coming of age story that addresses the phenomenon of the quarter-life crisis and the fragility of family ties in age of constant connection and instant communication. Say word. In addition, I’ll finally buy a digital camera. M’Julie got one for Christmas so stay tuned for the upcoming How I’m Livin posts, but I still need one for my own endeavors. I’ll get a job at Nike and move to the West Coast. Eventually, I’ll start my own brand consulting and creative design firm, but we’ll save that for 2009; baby steps.

Two-thousand-and-eight promises to be a bang-up year. But before we can begin to peel back the petals of this new and blossoming flower we must make it through New Year’s Eve. So wherever you are, whomever you’re with, be safe, have fun, and save a little for all those who can’t be with us tonight.

  1. Trust…Anybody can be an artist but it takes a pyrex of rock and a crazy magic trick in your holster to be creative. So I write to you my men of the quadratic table, we are young and cumbersome but with time our paths will converge on a course with a sign…

    DESTINATION: AWESOMETOWN

  4. GET IT POPPIN SON!

  5. Ron Paul in 2008 is what needs to happen in order to restore whats left of our great country–

and it sounds like you need to link up with Dupont Menage for the lyrical tip..

  6. keep me posted on the screen plays – i’d like to read them, maybe help edit or something if you need it, brother – always looking for someone to bounce literary ideas and thought off of.

  7. i’m always on the look out for like minded creative people to work with and feed off of. creativity, it seems, flourishes best in the arms of a nurturing community.

seriously though, both on the screenplay and hip hop tip, i’m always looking for co writers and co producers and MCs. once i get those scripts written up, i’ll definitely look to the consortium for critique and criticism.

rome and dewitz: i’m definitely feeling what you guys have going on with dupont menage. Holy Cow had a great beat, and whoever was rhyming had great flow; something most MCs seem to lack these days. we definitely need to link up.
