a cab ride

i’m 33 years old, i should be having babies. i don’t need to be
hanging around with 23 year olds. you started out so nice and
gentlemanly but then you turned into total monsters. you were so frat
boy like. it was terrible when you said the whole international
playboy thing – “we shag every woman we meet.” i’ve done the whole 23
year old thing – i mean i was a fucking whore. but thats it – i’m 33
i need something more.

‘first of all, we never said ’shag’ – that’s such a british thing, i’d
never say that.”

“it doesn’t matter, you know what you said. look, the past two days
i’ve been so horny – i just needed to scratch an itch. it’s such a
terrible way to put it but……that’s it, that’s what i mean. i
thought it could be a nice little holliday thing. just scratch an
itch, that’s all. now you’ve become so nasty. you’ve been taking the
piss out of me and i can’t defend myself. you became so nasty. i’m
drunk and you just became so fratty. i bet you’re more drunk than i.

the whole unbuttoning of your shirts was so terrible and you became so
loud – i’m 33 and i need to find love. i’m done with the 23 year old
thing. the joke’s were charming at first but they just became too
much. you became so loud.

“all i can say is that i acted like a perfect gentleman tonight – i
walked on the outside of the sidewalk. i’m sure you didn’t notice.
all i can say is i’m sorry for the way we’ve acted, but it doesn’t
mean i’m not gentlemanly. i wish you’d come out with us. let’s go
meet your friends.”

“no, i’m so tired. no”

“it’s okay, we’ll have a coffee. we’ll have a cappucino.”

“no, it’s okay, i’ll take you to the address but then i’m going home.
i’m so tired, and you’ve become so nasty. back to lan kwai fong -
yes, where we began.”

the lights of soho flew by and the cabs infront of us stopped, honked
and started again. drunken revelers stumbled their way home along the
side walk. i missed her and she was sitting next to me. she was
everything i ever wanted but nothing i needed, nothing i planned on.
she was beautiful in a way i never imagined, but she was nothing i
ever imagined simply because i had never met her – would every girl i
ever meet be this way?
she was nothing special…or different, but she was exciting because
she was a girl i had never met – if that makes any sense. i loved her
and would have married her in that instant and been full of regret in
the next – but that’s a woman. that’s a new woman, that’s a beautiful
new woman. i was 23 and she wanted babies. i wanted to make love -
she wanted the same, what was the issue? i loved her but i would
never meet a woman like her again – would i never love again? i would
meet a new girl and it would be the same – love is nothing but the
mood you’re in. nothing but what an old classic makes you think it
should be. it’s new york city and a girl with the same name of a girl
in new york city. it’s the fact that love will strike without a
warning but will make every beautiful 33 year old seem like the only
one….i loved her, but i loved myself loving here even more and that
was the truth. i didn’t love her.

“well, then – goodbye. i’m ever so sorry.”

“no, don’t worry. i’m sorry. goodnight”

“goodnight.”

Let me upgrade you.

I just updated the blog software to version 2.3 and it looks like some of links to youtube posts got broken during the process. For now we’re gonna have to be light on the media since I think it was the media plugin that posted audio and video that got fucked up. That’s all I’m gonna say since I don’t feel like putting my nerd status on blast.

Fashion Sleeper of the Month

With all of the hype around Ahmadinejad’s visit to the fashion capital I thought it only fitting to give him the shout out as our Fashion Sleeper of the Month. The theme screams business casual. Slacks complimented with some sort of loafer topped off with a patterned shirt (pop that top button cause its casual right) and a sportcoat. The color scheme is earthtones that say, “Hey, I may be a sand rascal but I am also elegant”. I guess you can have your khubs and eat it too.

a small world is what we all wish the facebook would be, what it used to be when it was exclusive to uni students…

Erik Wachtmeister founded ASMALLWORLD as a private online community for like-minded individuals. Most networking communities are open. Ours is only by invitation. Trusted members who have existing social networks of quality in the real world extend the invitations. aSmallWorld offers a retreat that intimately allows members to enhance their networks and to reconnect with old friends.

ASMALLWORLD also offers trusted and select information. Most of our content is produced by our members who offer travel suggestions, feedback, lively forum discussions, and other topics of common interest. Features on the website include a forum of diverse topics, listings of events around the world, a personal messaging service, suggestions and user ratings for travel and restaurants, and city-based resources.

Since its inception in 2004, ASMALLWORLD has quickly expanded into a global community of trusted friends and information. Members range from entrepreneurial and business opinion makers to leaders in media, entertainment, fashion, the arts and sports.

i challenge you

to look for new music and expand your horizons. one of my favorite things in life is music, i’ve been playing it (in one form or another, and not very well!) since middle school band. at this point in my life it’s obvious that i will probably never be a ‘musician’ but listening and collecting is something i can do for the rest of my life. and if it makes sense to listen well or collect well, then i think i do both…well.

i have a huge and varied music collection that spans vinyl, cd and mp3 and i’m constantly on the hunt for new and different sounds. i love the way music can evoke a feeling, transport you back in time or remind you of a certain place in the world. jazz always makes me think of new york city and a lazy summer afternoon in the park or the village. hip hop calls up memories of the ’streets’ – whether they be in nyc, seattle, berlin or any other city – and all the style, sounds, and vibes that go along with that image. classical recalls memories of italy, and the relaxing notes of a smooth electronic/jazz fusion take me away to a secluded beach somewhere on the med.

i know many of my friends share the same passion and in particular the members of the consortium were brought together so close for, amongst other reasons, our love for music in all its varieties. so, i challenge you to listen to something different tonight, while you’re kicking back at home – hit up iTunes and browse for an hour or so and then download a couple of tracks that sound good to you but you’d never thought you’d like. check out some Slayer, check out some David Bowie, some Miles Davis or some Cole Porter classics, whatever it is you thought you’d never dig – i’m sure there’s a track that will make you change your mind. to give you a head start here’s a playlist i found while browsing around the net this morning. it comes from a japanese’s cat’s blog, a dude with some very refined, and excellent taste:

1. Ray Barbee Meets The Mattson 2 / “Yeppers”
2. Sweetmouth / “I Know Why The Willow Weeps”
3. Morgana King / “Like A Seed”
4. Was A Bee / “This Is What You Are”
5. Jack Wilson / “On Children”
6. Grant Green / “Dracula”
7. James Mason / “Funny Girl”
8. Mackey Feary Band / “A Million Star”
9. Tuomo / “I Won’t Worry”
10. Azymuth / “Brazil”
11. Andre Orefjaro feat.May Yamani / “Cookin’ ”
12. Iman / “Who Was I Trying To Fool”
13. Heavy / “Wonderlove (For Minnie)”
14. Marlena Shaw / “Save The Children”
15. Adriana Evans / “Love Me”
16. Damon Aaron / “Freedom”
17. Ben Watt / “North Marine Drive”
18. Joao Donato e seu Trio / “Jodel”
19. Sagittarius / “Song To The Magic Frog (Will You Ever Know)”

the theme of the list is a relaxing, jazzy one. it culls tracks from modern jazz, classic jazz, and the fusion of jazz and electronic music. i’ve already downloaded the ‘is a bee’ track and jack wilson track form iTunes and recommend both. i can’t wait to listen to these songs in my loft in the city…one day brothers. all for now, keep exploring music and life.

thanks to http://blogs.dion.ne.jp/benben_noanoa/ and the music lover behind it.

The Knife is a musical duo from Sweden formed in 1999. The band consists of siblings Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer, who also run their own record company, Rabid Records.

One of the group’s distinguishing characteristics is their unwillingness to cooperate with the media or the mainstream music scene. The group rarely makes public appearances, most of their promotional photos feature the members wearing masks, usually venetian masks and until recently, they outright refused to perform live concerts.

González was born in Gothenburg, Sweden to Argentine parents in 1978. In 2003, he released his debut album, Veneer, in Europe. The album has since been released in the UK, on 25 April 2005, and on 6 September 2005 in the United States.

His trademark sound is solo classical guitar with soft melody. His work, although mostly original, does include acoustic covers of such hits as “Heartbeats” by his fellow Swedes The Knife, “Love Will Tear Us Apart” by Joy Division, “Born in the U.S.A.” and “The Ghost of Tom Joad” by Bruce Springsteen, “Hand On Your Heart” by Kylie Minogue, “Smalltown Boy” by Bronski Beat and “Teardrop” by Massive Attack.
